Rahul Gandhi Set to Address Constitutional Issues in Kolhapur on October 5
Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, is scheduled to visit Kolhapur, Maharashtra, on October 5 for a significant event dubbed ‘Samvidhan Sabha.’ During this gathering, he will engage with civil society members to discuss pressing constitutional issues ahead of the anticipated state assembly elections.
This visit comes at a critical time, as elections in Maharashtra are expected to be announced in early October. The Congress party aims to highlight what it perceives as attempts by the BJP to alter the constitution, a stance that has resonated with voters in recent Lok Sabha elections.
A Congress insider confirmed, “Rahul ji is coming to Kolhapur on October 5. He will be meeting with members of civil society to discuss constitutional matters. There is also a possibility he may inaugurate a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, though that is yet to be confirmed.”
Gandhi’s visit is particularly important in light of recent controversies surrounding his remarks on reservation policies. Following a statement made during an interaction at Georgetown University, where he suggested that India is not currently a fair place, the BJP accused him of wanting to end reservations. In response, Gandhi clarified, “I am not against reservation. We will take reservations beyond the limit of 50%,” aiming to quell any misinterpretations of his views.
As the political landscape heats up in Maharashtra, Gandhi’s engagement in Kolhapur is expected to be a pivotal moment for the Congress party as it seeks to strengthen its position in the upcoming elections.
